Excluding Serious Injury

When dealing with a concussed player it is important to be aware they may also have a serious head injury or spinal injury. If the player is unconscious, you should assume they also
have a head and spinal injury and manage the player accordingly.

If the player is conscious, the next step is to exclude the presence of a spinal injury. Once this is done, the athlete needs to be removed from the field of play.

Players with a severe concussion may require admission to hospital for observation.
